ROMDAS Laser Profilometer
ROMDAS Overview
ROMDAS® (ROad Measurement Data Acquision System) has been developed by
Data Collecon Ltd. (DCL) as a low cost modular system designed to collect road
and pavement data using any vehicle. ROMDAS oers greatexibility by allowing
users to add or remove modules depending on their specic data collecon
needs. Over the last several decades ROMDAS has been a leader of integrang
new data collecon technology and
providers of innovave technology for
measuring and managing roads
with over 200 units in use in over 60
countries, ROMDAS has a level of
renement rarely found in compeng
systems.

The DCL team has a wealth of
knowledge and experience available
to new users for customising systems
to meet specic needs and providing
ongoing technical support and
advice to exisng users.

The ROMDAS Laser Prolometer module is a Class I Ineral Proler and
conforms to ASTME950. It uses a laser and accelerometer combinaon to
measure the longitudinal elevaon prole of the road with very high degrees
of accuracy at highway speeds. The prole is then analysed to calculate
Internaonal Roughness Index (IRI) values.
providers of innovave technology for
measuring and managing roads
The ROMDAS Laser Prolometer is an exceponally portable system and can
be used for; construcon control surveys, large scale network surveys or
generally whenever high accuracy roughness data is required.
The latest version is extremely lightweight and portable, weighing only 3 kg,
and oering exceponal value for money when purchased with the central
ROMDAS system. The ROMDAS system with Laser Prolometer module is
one of the most cost eecve laser based systems for recording and
analysing roughness data available in the market. With no periodic
calibraon required the Laser Prolometer saves me and money when
collecng high accuracy roughness data.
Optional Upgrades
MPDorSMTDTextureUpgradeꢀ
ROMDAS Lasers can be upgraded to
measure macrotexture in terms of
Mean Prole Depth (MPD) or Sensor
Measured Texture Depth (SMTD).
SMTD texture can be measured using
the standard lasers, while the MPD
texture upgrade includes replacing
the standard Laser unit with a higher
speed laser.ꢀ
Oen single point laser prolers use a single axis (vercal) accelerometer.
The ROMDAS Laser Prolometer ulizes a three axis accelerometer which
helps lter inaccuracies caused during cornering or vehicle wander.
Thanks to ROMDAS’ customisable design, the system can be purchased as a
single (i.e. measure 1 wheel path) or dual laser setup (i.e. measure 2 wheel
paths) depending on customer requirements.
AddionalLasersꢀ
Addional lasers can be purchased
separately to give mulple road
proles.
Features and Benefits:
Extremely Portable weighing
around 3kgs,

Components
The Laser Prolometer is comprised of the following components:
 A high resoluon DMI for data synchronisaon,
A Class 3B 48 kHz Laser and Accelerometer unit,
All necessary power and communicaon cables,
providers of innovave technology for
measuring and managing roads
External vehicle mounng,
Laser conguraon cable.
Installation
The Laser Prolometer does not require a specialised vehicle, however it is
easier to install if the vehicle has a trailer mounng hitch installed to hold the
mounng bar.
